It’s the start of a new week! Welcome back to Common Sense with Ally Sammarco. Let’s break down the latest news.
Trump Uses Bully Pulpit to Change FIFA Ruling….Donald Trump said he spoke with FIFA President Gianni Infantino after a controversial red card given to U.S. men’s national team striker Folarin Balogun, urging FIFA to review what he called a “very unfair” call. The July 1 incident led to Balogun being ejected for contact with an opposing player, triggering an automatic suspension that would have sidelined him for the Round of 16 matchup against Belgium. Following Trump’s call, FIFA’s disciplinary process shifted course, placing the one-game suspension on a one-year probationary basis—meaning it could be reinstated if there’s another similar violation.
Common Sense Takeaway: This is a bizarre case of corruption where Donald is now trying to control the outcome of the World Cup because he thinks it’ll make him look better if we win. As much as I want the U.S. team to win, I don’t think a president should be involved in the outcomes of a sports game. But I guess he’s been obsessed with FIFA ever since they gave him that faux world peace prize.
Trump Administration Plans New Louisiana Facility to Hold Migrant Families Ahead of Deportations….The Trump administration is preparing to open a 528-bed holding facility near Alexandria, Louisiana, designed to temporarily house migrant families and unaccompanied children as part of efforts to speed up deportations. Officials say the site, located next to a major ICE flight hub, will function as a short-term “staging area” for people awaiting removal. The move is intended to streamline logistics that have previously led to chaotic transfers of children across shelters and airports. Immigration advocates, however, warn the facility could expand detention-like conditions for vulnerable families and raise oversight concerns. ICE says stays would be brief, but contractors and planning documents suggest the site will play a central role in the deportation pipeline through one of the country’s busiest enforcement airports.
Common Sense Takeaway: How much taxpayer money is going to detaining families and children in these deplorable conditions? We don’t need more detainment centers, we need a reformed immigration system that allows families to stay intact and offers them a pathway to citizenship. Many of these people were living among us for 10+ years, holding jobs, and paying taxes. You can’t tell me this is a better outcome.
White House Report Accuses Smithsonian of “Political Activism” in Exhibits…..The White House released a 162-page report accusing the Smithsonian Institution of promoting “extreme political activism” and presenting a “radical” interpretation of American history, particularly targeting exhibits at the National Museum of American History. The report claims the museum frames issues like immigration, race, slavery, and transgender identity through an ideological lens that divides Americans rather than reflects shared history. Smithsonian officials rejected the characterization, saying the institution remains committed to nonpartisan scholarship and independent research. The review comes amid a broader Trump administration effort to scrutinize federal cultural institutions following an executive order aimed at “restoring truth and sanity” to American history.
Common Sense Takeaway: I have been to many Smithsonian museums, and I have never walked away thinking they were pushing an ideological agenda. Everything is based in fact and history—two things the Trump Administration doesn’t like. How pathetic to pick a fight with them. Stand your ground, Smithsonian.
That’s it for today. Thanks for reading Common Sense with Ally Sammarco. Check back tomorrow for more.

Hi Ally! COMMON SENSE APPROACH FOR SURE! Stand up Smithsonian against these IGNORANT RUBES ! We are with you ❤️
I have been to the Smithsonian in Washington DC and took a very non-aware friend of mine. I am now 81 and the memories of that amazing historical place will be forever in my head. We often share our memories of that day. Don’t let any of it be changed. There is no doubt that there will be a section somewhere about our history with ‘trumpet’. There is no doubt about his ‘historical behavior’ will be a part of history. Thanks.
