Happy Monday and welcome back to Common Sense with Ally Sammarco. Let’s break down the latest news.
Trump Orders New Repairs to Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool After Costly Renovation Problems….President Trump announced that repairs will begin immediately on the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool after widespread reports of peeling paint and algae growth surfaced just days after the completion of a more than $16 million renovation project. The administration says at least five people have been arrested on vandalism charges, with Trump alleging that chemicals and intentional damage caused the newly installed lining to fail, though no evidence has been publicly released to support those claims. Contractors say the pool will likely need to be drained again for repairs, which will be covered under the project's warranty.
Common Sense Takeaway: What a metaphor for the Trump Administration. They spent a shitload of money to do a terrible job and make it worse than it was before, then blame their failures on other people with no evidence to back it up. Incredible work. And a great reason to never trust them to do anything, even the simplest of tasks.
Florida Shuts Down ‘Alligator Alcatraz’ After Costly Immigration Detention Experiment….Florida officials have begun dismantling the controversial immigration detention facility known as “Alligator Alcatraz,” ending a project once promoted by Governor Ron DeSantis and President Trump as a model for other states. Vendors operating the facility were notified to begin full demobilization, with the remaining structures expected to be removed within days. The detention center, which processed more than 22,000 migrants and faced criticism from human rights groups over conditions inside, is now estimated to have cost taxpayers roughly $1.2 billion. State officials had anticipated federal reimbursement for much of the expense, but much of that funding remains tied up in legal and administrative challenges.
Common Sense Takeaway: And a second metaphor for the Trump Administration. They spent a ton of money on “Alligator Alcatraz” as a way to posture to the rest of the country and to immigrants that they are tough. Now it’s closing due to escalating operating costs that they can’t sustain and ongoing legal battles over the detention center’s environmental impact and humanitarian conditions. Great work, Ron DeSantis!
Federal Judge Blocks DOJ Probe Into Minnesota Democrats’ Immigration Policies….A federal judge has blocked the Justice Department from enforcing subpoenas against Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and other Democratic officials as part of an investigation into resistance to the Trump administration’s immigration enforcement efforts. In a sharply worded ruling, Judge Patrick Schiltz concluded that the subpoenas were an unconstitutional attempt to pressure state and local leaders into assisting with federal immigration crackdowns and to retaliate against them for opposing those policies. The decision voids requests for records from Walz, Attorney General Keith Ellison, and several local officials, dealing a setback to the administration’s efforts to scrutinize Democratic-led jurisdictions over immigration enforcement.
Common Sense Takeaway: Aaaand a third huge L for Trump. Finally a judge with some guts to say “hey, this is actually weaponization of the government against your political enemies and this is unconstitutional.” If only they could all have such common sense. Thank you, Judge Schiltz!
That’s it for today. Thanks for reading Common Sense with Ally Sammarco. Check back tomorrow (my birthday!) for more.

Everything trump touches turns to shit!
And we the taxpayers foot the bill for
his ongoing stupidity! If only we had
a Congress that did it's job!
