Happy Monday and welcome to today’s edition of Common Sense with Ally Sammarco—your daily briefing on politics throughout the world. Christmas is 3 days away but the chaos never stops. Let’s break it down.
DOJ Under Fire Over Epstein File Release….A group of alleged victims of Jeffrey Epstein is accusing the Department of Justice of violating the law in its partial release of Epstein-related files. Despite a congressional deadline, the DOJ released only a fraction of the records—many heavily and inexplicably redacted—while leaving some survivor identities unredacted, causing what victims describe as “real and immediate harm.” The women say key materials, including financial records and grand jury minutes approved for release by a judge, were entirely withheld or fully blacked out, and that hundreds of thousands of pages remain unreleased. Attorneys for more than 200 survivors report multiple instances where names appeared without redactions, forcing emergency removals of documents after publication. Victims are now calling for immediate congressional oversight, arguing the DOJ both failed to comply with the law and failed to protect survivors.
Common Sense takeaway: There go my attempts to be optimistic regarding the release of the files. It ended up being worse than I could have imagined. Not only did they withhold thousands and thousands of documents, they heavily redacted the ones they did release to the point that they are completely useless. The only thing they didn’t redact was the names of victims apparently. That’s how useless and corrupt this DOJ is. I want to see people go to jail immediately for these violations of the law. What about you?
Schumer Moves to Sue DOJ Over Epstein Files….Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer announced he will introduce a resolution directing the Senate to take legal action against the Department of Justice for failing to fully release the Jeffrey Epstein files as required by law. Schumer says the DOJ missed its deadline, released only a fraction of records, and buried the rest under extreme redactions—violating a statute Congress passed and Donald Trump signed. Lawmakers in both chambers, including Reps. Thomas Massie and Ro Khanna, say they’re preparing additional action as victims accuse the DOJ of withholding evidence while exposing survivor identities. The department insists delays are due to victim-protection reviews and says the full release is coming—but pressure for oversight, hearings, and court action is rapidly escalating.
Common Sense takeaway: As I was saying…..jail. Indictments. Hearings. Now. This is the correct move by Schumer, Ro Khanna, and Thomas Massie. Pam Bondi clearly thinks she is above the law and that the American people are stupid. Just remember: innocent people don’t hide the truth. They are going to try to delay and delay through the holidays until we give up. Don’t give up, Democrats. Double down.
CBS Pulls “60 Minutes” Report on El Salvador Mega Prison….CBS News abruptly pulled a scheduled 60 Minutes segment examining the Trump administration’s deportation of detainees to El Salvador’s notorious CECOT mega prison just hours before it was set to air. The report, which included footage of shackled detainees and accounts of months-long abuse, was postponed without a clear explanation, fueling accusations of political interference. Correspondent Sharyn Alfonsi reportedly told colleagues the piece had passed legal and editorial review and was pulled for “political” reasons. The move comes amid ongoing controversy at CBS and its parent company Paramount, including a recent lawsuit settlement with Donald Trump. Democrats, including Sen. Brian Schatz, are now demanding answers over why a vetted investigation was suddenly shelved.
Common Sense takeaway: I think we know the answer. Bari Weiss is a hack and always has been. She is untrustworthy and not interested in exposing the truth—just ratings. Alfonsi should release the segment on her own if they won’t do it. CBS cannot be trusted right now.
Democrats Warn IRS Isn’t Ready for Tax Season….Senate Democrats are sounding the alarm that the Internal Revenue Service may be unprepared for the upcoming tax filing season, citing leadership chaos and workforce cuts under Donald Trump. In a letter led by Elizabeth Warren, senators warned taxpayers could face delays in filing returns and receiving refunds after layoffs, buyouts, and repeated leadership changes at the agency—now on its seventh leader this year. Democrats argue the administration’s moves favor the wealthy while weakening customer service and fraud prevention. A Treasury inspector general report found prior filing seasons held up despite cuts, but warned ongoing staffing losses could reduce taxpayer assistance and allow hundreds of millions in fraudulent refunds to slip through.
Common Sense takeaway: This is part of Trump’s plan to dismantle all of the “three-letter agencies.” The mass layoffs and discord that have spread through the IRS will, of course, delay the processing of hundreds of millions of tax returns and Americans will likely see their refunds much later than normal. As if our government wasn’t already inefficient enough.
