Welcome back to Common Sense with Ally Sammarco. Let’s break down the latest news.
Supreme Court Shields Bayer From Thousands of Roundup Cancer Lawsuits….The Supreme Court ruled in favor of Bayer, the maker of Roundup weedkiller, in a major decision expected to block thousands of lawsuits alleging the company failed to warn consumers that the product could cause cancer. The Court found that federal regulators had already determined glyphosate—the key ingredient in Roundup—is unlikely to cause cancer when used as directed, preventing many state-level failure-to-warn claims from moving forward. The ruling is a significant victory for Bayer, which has faced roughly 200,000 claims and set aside billions of dollars to settle litigation.
Common Sense Takeaway: Any cancer-causing chemical in a product should have a WARNING! Period. That is not that much to ask. If 200,000 people were affected by your product, that’s enough evidence to support requiring a warning. But corporations win again under this Supreme Court. Terrible.
Supreme Court Expands Gun Carry Rights on Private Property Open to the Public….The Supreme Court struck down a Hawaii law that prohibited people from carrying firearms onto private property open to the public unless the owner gave explicit permission. In a 6-3 ruling, the Court's conservative majority found that the law violated the Second Amendment by placing excessive restrictions on lawful gun owners. The decision is expected to invalidate similar laws in states including California, Maryland, New York, and New Jersey. While private property owners can still ban firearms from their premises, they must now clearly post those restrictions themselves.
Common Sense Takeaway: Once again, the Supreme Court is putting guns over people. This ruling essentially makes it easier for gun owners to bring weapons on to private property, instead of inversely keeping people safe on private property that allows public access (such as grocery stores, malls, etc.) and then allowing for exceptions if the owner agrees.
Supreme Court Allows Trump Administration to End Deportation Protections for Haitians and Syrians…..The Supreme Court ruled 6-3 that the Trump administration can move forward with ending Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for roughly 350,000 Haitians and 6,000 Syrians living in the United States. The decision allows the administration to revoke legal protections that have allowed recipients to live and work in the U.S. while conditions in their home countries were deemed unsafe. The Court's conservative majority concluded that federal law gives the Department of Homeland Security broad authority over TPS decisions and limits judicial review of those determinations. Immigrant advocates condemned the ruling, noting that both Haiti and Syria remain on the State Department's "Do Not Travel" list due to ongoing violence and instability.
Common Sense Takeaway: Haiti is still undergoing state-level gang violence and political collapse, while Syria is still in the middle of a civil war. How could you force families to return to such disastrous conditions that are deemed unsafe for Americans? Truly evil.

Roberts and the rest of the treasonous 6 need to be impeached, disbarred, locked up in prison for life for treason with no bail, parole or release of any kind. All their right wing decisions need to be overturned and they and their billionaire sugar daddies need to have all their assets, wealth, properties seized and used to pay back all the decades of damage that they caused and be forced to watch as the country, as the world gets better without them in it!!
That’s what I detest most about this court, their utter lack of humanity that they rationalize with an ideologue conceit, “originalism”, where they claim to channel the Founder’s intent. That way they can completely ignore the effects of their odious rulings on actual human beings living in the present. Alito is the worst of the bunch, but the six conservatives are in lockstep.
