Blanche Clears Confirmation Hurdle….Todd Blanche's nomination to become attorney general is back on track after he formally scrapped the Trump administration's controversial "Anti-Weaponization Fund" and narrowed the scope of a Justice Department agreement involving IRS audits of President Trump's tax returns. Republican Sens. John Cornyn and Thom Tillis, who had been blocking the nomination over those issues, said the changes addressed their concerns and announced they would support advancing Blanche's confirmation. The Senate Judiciary Committee is expected to vote on his nomination this week.
Common Sense Takeaway: Thanks for nothing, Cornyn and Tillis. They think they won, well wait until they find out that the Trump Administration doesn’t play by the rules. The only way to stop someone like Trump is to block them from installing the people they want around them. And regardless of all of that, Blanche still won’t commit to investigating the Epstein Files. That should have been a non-starter.
Max Miller Scandal Draws National Attention….Democrats are eyeing Ohio’s 7th Congressional District as a potential pickup opportunity as Rep. Max Miller faces mounting scrutiny over domestic abuse allegations made by his ex-wife, Emily Moreno, and renewed attention to similar allegations from former White House Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham. Miller denies all allegations. On Sunday, he released an X video where he attempted to discredit his ex-wife’s testimony and character, asking the question “If I had assaulted her, would she have offered to cook me dinner six days later?" As a result, Sen. Bernie Moreno, Emily’s father, broke his silence and called on Miller to leave Congress. Democratic lawmakers have called for his resignation and a House ethics investigation, while most Republicans have stayed silent. Although the Republican-leaning district still favors Miller, Democrats believe the controversy could make the seat more competitive heading into November.
Common Sense Takeaway: This lunatic should obviously resign, drop out, and seek professional help. But he won’t. Because he’s a narcissist and well, the Republican Party loves narcissists. (See: Donald Trump) The lack of accountability here from the Republican Party is disturbing. We should have ads everywhere that expose their complicity in this case, and others as well.
Israel Pushes Back on Trump's Gaza Deal….A proposed Gaza peace framework announced by President Trump is already facing uncertainty after Israel said the publicly released version of the agreement does not reflect its position. Israeli officials insist Hamas must fully and verifiably surrender its weapons before any long-term deal can move forward, while Hamas says disarmament is contingent on a complete Israeli withdrawal and an end to military operations. The disagreement comes as Israeli strikes over the weekend reportedly killed at least 26 people in Gaza, underscoring how fragile any path to a lasting ceasefire remains.
Common Sense Takeaway: There will never be an end to this war, with Benjamin Netanyahu at the helm of Israel and Donald Trump leading the United States. Netanyahu wants this war to continue until there is nothing left of Gaza and he will play Trump like a fiddle until he gets what he wants. While negotiations are being “worked out”—or stalled—innocent children are still dying.
