Happy Thursday and welcome back to Common Sense with Ally Sammarco. Let’s break down the latest news.
Donald Says He Might Not Make It to His Son’s Wedding….Donald Trump says he’ll “try” to attend Donald Trump Jr.’s wedding to Bettina Anderson this weekend in the Bahamas. “He’d like me to go. I’m going to try. I said, this is not good timing for me. I have a thing called Iran and other things. He’s a person I’ve known for a long time,” said Donald. Don Jr. and Anderson opted for a smaller private ceremony over a more high-profile White House event, citing concerns about optics during ongoing international conflicts. Vanessa Trump, Don Jr.s ex, also recently revealed that she was diagnosed with breast cancer.
Common Sense Takeaway: “He’s a person I’ve known for a long time?” Why does Donald talk about his sons like they are old friends or business partners? I can’t imagine not attending my own child’s wedding, but then again these are Republican family values. New headline: 3x married man doesn’t attend wedding of 2x married son.
DNC’s Disputed 2024 Postmortem Is Released….The DNC has released a long-disputed postmortem on the 2024 election loss, and it’s already fueling more infighting in our party. The report, authored by consultant Paul Rivera but publicly disavowed by the Democratic National Committee, argues that the Biden campaign failed to set up Kamala Harris for success, citing weak messaging against Donald Trump and a lack of outreach to rural and irregular voters. DNC Chair Ken Martin admitted releasing the report despite major credibility concerns—including missing sourcing and unverifiable claims—saying transparency outweighed the risk.
Common Sense Takeaway: I appreciate Ken’s transparency here. This was not a report that needed to be released or should have been released–but had to be because the public demanded it. Truthfully, I don’t care what the report says or what is should have said. We need to move on to 2026 and 2028, because Republican approval levels are at all-time lows and that’s where we should be focused.
GOP Infighting Delays Trump Immigration Funding Bill….Senate Republicans hit pause on a major immigration funding package after internal backlash over the Trump administration’s proposed $1.8 billion “anti-weaponization” fund. Led by John Thune, GOP leaders had hoped to fast-track the bill—which includes roughly $70 billion for ICE and Border Patrol—but a closed-door briefing with the Justice Department left even Republicans unconvinced. Concerns over oversight, Democratic opposition, and added controversies—including a $1 billion request tied to Donald Trump’s White House projects—have stalled momentum, pushing any vote until at least June and all but guaranteeing Trump’s self-imposed deadline will be missed.
Common Sense Takeaway: Love this for them. We need to keep the pressure up because we absolutely CANNOT fund ICE and Border Patrol for one more day. We also need to do everything we can to stop this slush fund from materializing. Good news: it looks like Harry Dunn and Daniel Hodges, two law enforcement officers who clashed with Jan. 6 insurrectionists, have recently sued to block the Trump slush fund.
That’s it for today. Thanks for reading Common Sense with Ally Sammarco. Check back tomorrow for more.

“I can’t go to that guys wedding, even though I’ve known him for a long time. I’ve got Iran going on, gotta figure out who to insult this weekend to manipulate the markets. And those golf balls don’t hit themselves, you know. Gotta stay in shape for my next championship, because you know I always win.”
A-women Ally! I don’t give a rat’s patootie what that report says.
We absolutely 1000% move on from 2024. (Otherwise we’re no better than the bloody 🍊 💩 gibbon with his wailing about 2020.)
And yes, the GOP is weak, flailing and on the ropes—let’s act like it Dems!!!
