Happy Friday! We here at Common Sense love Fridays. As your source for news and analysis on the circus that is American politics and entertainment, we always try to take some time away from the news on the weekends no matter what’s happening in the world.
Kilmar Abrego Garcia is back in the U.S. but will face charges announced by the Trump Administration… Kilmar Abrego Garcia, who was illegally deported by the Trump Administration and held in an El Savador prison of death is back on U.S. soil. But it’s not for the reasons anyone with a conscience would want. AG Pam Bondi announced his return to the U.S. was arranged so he could “face justice” here – ironic since the man who selected her for the job escaped justice on 34 felony convictions. “Garcia… has been named in an indictment charging” he “participated in a conspiracy over nine years to move people from Texas deeper into the country.” If he broke the law, he should like anyone else (including Donald Trump) face justice. But the allegations against Garcia have a foul stench of trumped-up charges allowing the Trump Administration to cover its ass of its own miscarraige of justice.
Maryland and D.C. common-sense gun laws and PA mail-balloting rules to remain in place as SCOTUS declined to hear appeals… NBC News reports Trump’s bought-and-paid Supreme Court “left in place a longstanding gun restriction in the District of Columbia that bans magazines that hold more than 10 rounds of ammunition, opting once again to avoid taking up a new gun rights case. The court, which has a 6-3 conservative majority that generally favors gun rights, turned away a challenge to the Washington, D.C., law just a few days after rejecting an appeal over a similar law in Rhode Island. Then, the court also left in place Maryland's ban on assault-style weapons including the AR-15 semiautomatic rifle.” Meanwhile, “the high court decided against taking up a significant election case involving mail-in ballots in Pennsylvania that pitted Republicans against Democrat, NBC also reported. Sounds like a good time for states to expand voting access and enact common-sense gun laws! Despite the positive SCOTUS development, the courts six justices are still as corrupt as ever. See below.
SCOTUS is perfectly fine with Elon Musk’s cronies having your Social Security number… CBS News reports, “The Supreme Court on Friday cleared the way for the White House's Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE, to access sensitive information kept by the Social Security Administration while legal proceedings move forward. In an unsigned order, the high court agreed to temporarily lift an injunction issued by a federal district court in Maryland that limited DOGE's access to agency systems of records containing the personal information of millions of Americans. Justices Elena Kagan, Sonia Sotomayor and Ketanji Brown Jackson dissented.” At least Elon is out of government, but who’s to say he didn’t swipe a copy of all of our personal information for a shady business venture?
Sycophants offer creepy and un-American praise of Trump amid riff with Elon Musk… “Do not doubt, do not second-guess and don’t ever challenge the president of the United States, Donald Trump.” That was the message from Speaker Mike Johnson in response to a question about Elon Musk’s criticism. Gross. Politico portrays Elon and Donald as parents of the GOP (also gross) and concludes, “Amid the messy ongoing divorce between the president and the world’s richest man, this much is already clear: Donald Trump has sole custody of the House GOP.” MAGA Republicans’ worship of Donald Trump should not be equated to any appropriate parent-child relationship. Rather, the GOP are children obsessed with a parent who will never love them back. Those children are coming to the defense of their daddy, Donald Trump.
Today’s Furry Friend
Our best furry friends’ livelihood depends on us, so it should come as no surprise when they try to stop us from paying too much attention to something else (i.e. our phones) or when they try to join in on human activities. Feline friends jump on piano keys for those reasons. (It’s not to annoy the pianist!)
Today’s Buzz
Sarah Jessica Parker responds to Carrie Bradshaw haters… It’s okay to love the art but not love the artist. We hope no one threw away their Harry Potter books because of something asinine said by the author in real life. In entertainment, you should also be able to dislike the character while loving the artist. The actor playing Game of Thrones monster King Joffrey, for instance, is such a sweetheart in real life that the HBO series’ cast was devastated when they learned of plans for the character’s death. Sarah Jessica Parker is a good human and professional regardless of how anyone feels about Carrie Bradshaw. This good human is now speaking out. The Guardian sets up the interview with: “Carrie Bradshaw was undoubtedly not intended as a hate figure when Sex and the City first aired. But in recent years, a curious cultural shift has occurred: newer fans have started to see Carrie, played by Sarah Jessica Parker, as the most toxic thing about the horny, headline-grabbing show. An entire website, Carrie Bradshaw Is the Worst, was devoted to explaining why Carrie sucked.”
Thanks for reading. Enjoy yourself this weekend, and check back Monday for the next edition of Common Sense.
Can’t wait for Dems to take over Congress and now have access to Thomas, Kavenaugh, Alito full SS and Tax … live Carrie B and SJP… I have never seen the hate and if there is some, show is so popular that it has lasted decades and multiple movies…
