Happy Friday! Welcome back to Common Sense with Ally Sammarco. Let’s break down the latest news.
Tulsi Gabbard Resigns as DNI…Tulsi Gabbard is resigning from her role as Director of National Intelligence, announcing she will step down effective June 30 to support her husband, Abraham, following his diagnosis with a rare form of bone cancer. Gabbard informed Donald Trump during a White House meeting, calling the decision a deeply personal one and emphasizing her need to be by her husband’s side during his treatment. During her tenure, she formally dismantled Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programs within the IC and shut down the NSA's "Pride Glossary" systems.
Common Sense Takeaway: Whether she is actually quitting or being forced out, we will never know. But this, of course, is part of a larger pattern of every member of the administration leaving their post prematurely. What I will say for sure is, Tulsi Gabbard will not be missed.
New Fed Chair Kevin Warsh is Sworn In….Kevin Warsh was sworn in as the new Federal Reserve chair, replacing Jerome Powell at a moment of economic turbulence marked by rising inflation, geopolitical instability, and shaky consumer confidence. Backed by Donald Trump, Warsh is signaling a “reform-oriented” approach to the central bank, while facing immediate pressure over interest rate decisions as inflation climbs. His close alignment with Trump—and the president’s history of pressuring the Fed—begs the question to whether the Federal Reserve can maintain its independence during the current state of the economy.
Common Sense Takeaway: Jerome Powell was holding the line when it came to Fed independence. It’s extremely scary to know that a closer Trump ally will now be in this position and may be susceptible to pressure by Trump to rig numbers and make financial decisions on his behalf, instead of the country’s.
House GOP Delays Vote as Iran War Pushback Grows…House Republicans abruptly delayed a vote on a war powers resolution that would limit Donald Trump’s ability to continue U.S. military operations in Iran after it became clear the measure might pass. This is a calculated move to prolong the conflict—launched without congressional approval—as rising costs, U.S. casualties, and surging gas prices fuel political pressure. Lawmakers are now expected to revisit the vote in June, and finally make a determination over Congress’s authority to check the president’s war powers.
Common Sense Takeaway: This should not be a controversial vote! The delay here is extremely calculated by Republicans to stop Donald Trump from throwing a hissy fit. Republicans need to pass this bill immediately to restore checks and balances when it comes to war powers, and we should not let up until they do.
That’s it for today. Thanks for reading Common Sense with Ally Sammarco. Check back on Monday for more.

Gabbard’s replacement won’t be an improvement. If any it will be worse and for sure, not a woman.
With this administration, there is always someone worse waiting to step in.
