Happy Friday and welcome back to Common Sense with Ally Sammarco. Let’s break down the latest news.
Sophie Cunningham Makes Comments About Transgender Athletes….Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham is making headlines after speaking out on transgender athletes’ participation in women’s sports. In a recent interview, Cunningham said she believes women’s sports and locker rooms should be reserved for biological women, adding that she wants to “protect young girls in a locker room” and doesn’t think female athletes should have to compete against biological men. While her comments drew praise from some conservatives, they also sparked criticism online, with some users labeling her “MAGA Barbie.” Cunningham pushed back on the political characterization, saying she considers herself “in the middle” politically and that her views are rooted in what she believes is fairness in women’s sports.
Common Sense Takeaway: Genuinely asking: What is the implication with trans women in locker rooms? That they will stare at another woman getting changed? Wouldn't this also be a concern if a woman was a lesbian, which many women in sports are? Are we supposed to ask everybody their sexual preference now?
Trump Expands Tariffs on Nearly Every Major U.S. Trading Partner…The Trump administration is imposing new tariffs of 10% to 12.5% on imports from roughly 60 trading partners, including the European Union, China, Japan, Canada, and Mexico, arguing the move is necessary to combat forced labor in global supply chains. While some countries that have adopted forced labor import restrictions will face the lower 10% rate, others will be hit with a 12.5% tariff. Economists warn that import taxes are often passed on to consumers, meaning Americans could see higher prices on everything from household goods to groceries. The sweeping tariffs cover countries responsible for nearly all U.S. imports and come after the Supreme Court struck down Trump’s previous tariff strategy earlier this year, forcing the administration to pursue a new legal path.
Common Sense Takeaway: I’m so lost on why tariffs are being this aggressively pursued by the Trump Administration, especially after how the last attempt played out. This is not a winning strategy for them or for American consumers, who have to pay the price.
House Passes $1 Trillion Defense Bill After Political Standoff….The House narrowly passed its annual National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), approving more than $1 trillion in defense spending after weeks of political gridlock. The bill includes funding for the Pentagon, the nation’s nuclear arsenal, and a pay raise for service members, but Democrats overwhelmingly opposed it, citing concerns over the Trump administration’s military operations in Iran and the massive increase in defense spending. The legislation now heads to the Senate, where it faces an uncertain future. The bill also includes parts of the SAVE Act, as Republicans continue pushing to tie Trump’s voter ID legislation to other must-pass bills.
Common Sense Takeaway: Dear Republicans, stop trying to make the SAVE Act happen. It’s not going to happen. Also, why are we allocating trillions of dollars towards an unnecessary war and illegal military operations? So many questions. Not enough answers. That’s why this bill should not pass through the Senate.
That’s it for today. Thanks for reading Common Sense with Ally Sammarco. Check back on Monday for more.

"Wouldn't this also be a concern if a woman was a lesbian..."
100% spot on. But don't expect conservatives to be logical or think things through.
Trillion dollar defense budget with specific allocations. Who are they kidding. Trump spends our tax dollars as he wants. If we were to do an audit, I am convinced that we are bankrupt from his handling of our money.
