Happy Monday and welcome back to Common Sense with Ally Sammarco. Let’s break down the latest news.
Trump Spews Attacks and “Trump 2028” Joke at Correspondents’ Dinner….President Trump headlined the rescheduled White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner, which was postponed after a shooting disrupted the original event in April. While he opened by condemning political violence and praising the Secret Service officer who stopped the gunman, his hour-long speech quickly shifted to familiar territory, taking aim at Democratic leaders and several journalists. Trump also joked about seeking a third term—despite the Constitution’s two-term limit—by putting on a red “Trump 2028” hat at the end of his remarks. The event honored Secret Service officer Victor Gonzales and hotel staff for their actions during the April attack.
Common Sense Takeaway: Truthfully, I forgot this dinner was even happening—and I’m so glad I did. If you watched any portion of it, you know that every joke, he bombed—and he otherwise spent the night insulting women for their looks. I also don’t find any “Trump 2028” jokes funny. There was no reason to go to this dinner for any self-respecting person.
Three Killed in Shooting at Seattle Food Festival….Three people were killed and four others were injured after a shooting erupted at Seattle’s annual Bite of Seattle food festival. Police say two people exchanged gunfire in the middle of the crowded event, prompting officers already on site to respond within seconds. One suspect is in custody, while authorities continue searching for a second alleged shooter. The victims who died included a 19-year-old man, a 44-year-old man, and a 56-year-old woman. Two firearms were recovered at the scene, and investigators are asking anyone with photos, videos, or information to come forward as they continue searching for the remaining suspect.
Common Sense Takeaway: Another needless shooting. More senseless deaths. At a food festival, of all places. It’s just a reminder that we aren’t safe anywhere in this country when guns are still being sold like candy. It doesn’t have to be this way. We can have common sense gun regulations that protect the premise of the Second Amendment and keep us safe.
Pentagon Deliberately Altering Fatality Tracking….The Pentagon is facing scrutiny after four U.S. service members killed in Jordan and Iraq were removed from its public database tracking casualties from the war with Iran and reclassified under “Overseas Operations.” The change temporarily reduced the official death toll for Operation Epic Fury from 18 to 14, prompting questions about how military casualties are being counted. The Defense Department blamed the discrepancy on a “temporary data disruption” and said the issue is being corrected, while also confirming that nearly 100 additional U.S. troops have been injured since fighting resumed in July.
Common Sense Takeaway: Does anyone trust Fox News host Pete Hegseth to properly report on casualties they caused in their needless war? I don’t. This is why we need press monitoring in the Pentagon and also why the Pentagon has tried to boot out major news outlets that they deem “left-wing.” It’s clear that we can’t let them operate unchecked, or they WILL lie to us.
That’s it for today. Thanks for reading Common Sense with Ally Sammarco. Check back tomorrow for more.

As Lucian Truscott ably stated why didn’t just one or a few journalists simply stand up and walk out during the most insulting part of the speech ? Reason : fear
As you said, no self-respecting person should attend that event. The press in general left their self-respect at home when it comes to covering trump and his regime.
