Happy Tuesday! Welcome back to Common Sense with Ally Sammarco. Let’s break down the latest news.
Texans Head to the Polls Today….Voters in Texas head to the polls Tuesday for a high-stakes set of primary runoffs that could shape control of the U.S. Senate—and test Donald Trump’s grip on the GOP. His late endorsement of Attorney General Ken Paxton over incumbent Sen. John Cornyn has intensified an already bitter and record-breaking $125 million race, exposing deep divisions within the party. Meanwhile, multiple House contests are drawing attention, including crowded and redistricted matchups in Houston and Dallas. On the Democratic side, controversy is swirling around candidate Maureen Galindo, whose inflammatory past comments have drawn sharp condemnation from party leaders. All eyes are on whether Trump’s endorsements continue their winning streak—and how these chaotic primaries reshape the broader 2026 battlefield.
Common Sense Takeaway: Here’s to hoping and praying that Ken Paxton gets that nomination today. A problematic Republican candidate is exactly what James Talarico needs to get over the edge in this race, and if there’s a year that we win a Texas Senate race, I think this is it.
U.S. Strikes Spark Tensions Over Iran Deal…. Per NBC, Tensions between the United States and Iran are escalating again after Tehran accused Washington of violating a fragile ceasefire with new “defensive” strikes near the Strait of Hormuz. The U.S. says it targeted missile sites and Iranian vessels posing a threat, but Iran is calling the move a sign of “bad faith” and warning of retaliation. The tensions comes at a critical moment, with officials on both sides suggesting a potential deal to end the three-month conflict could be just days away. While negotiations continue behind the scenes, this latest exchange shows how quickly things can fall apart—especially with major sticking points like Iran’s nuclear program and regional alliances still unresolved.
Common Sense Takeaway: What a mess this whole exchange with Iran has been. We might even come off of this in a worse position than we were before just to re-open the Strait of Hormuz. Unfortunately, the adults are not in charge—and to make matters worse, many in the Cabinet are playing musical chairs right now.
Trump Heads to Walter Reed Ahead of 80th Birthday….President Donald Trump visited Walter Reed National Military Medical Center Tuesday for his annual medical and dental evaluations, part of routine preventive care, according to the White House. The visit comes amid increased scrutiny of his health ahead of his 80th birthday next month. Officials have previously disclosed that Trump has chronic venous insufficiency—a common but manageable condition affecting blood flow in the legs—while maintaining that he remains in overall “excellent” health.
Common Sense Takeaway: If unexplained bruises, falling asleep in meetings, and a medical classification of “obese” is “excellent” health then that’s good news for all of us. The sad reality is that we can’t trust a single thing this White House says. The president could be on his death bed but they would gaslight us into believing he’s doing better than ever.
That’s it for today. Thanks for reading Common Sense with Ally Sammarco. Check back tomorrow for more.

And ignore the fact that I originally said Monday, when it is in fact Tuesday :)
