Happy Monday and welcome back to Common Sense with Ally Sammarco. Let’s break down the latest news.
Mitch McConnell Reveals Cause of Hospitalization….Sen. Mitch McConnell revealed that his weeks-long hospitalization began after a fall last month that left him briefly unconscious. McConnell said doctors found no broken bones, concussion, stroke, heart attack, tumor, or hemorrhage, though he developed a mild case of pneumonia during his recovery. He’s now in a rehabilitation facility and says he’ll continue serving Kentucky while undergoing physical therapy, but he isn’t ready to return to the Senate floor just yet. McConnell has previously announced he will not seek reelection but says he still intends to finish the remainder of his term.
Common Sense Takeaway: What kind of a fall with no concussion or broken bone leads someone to be in the hospital for weeks? Women are kicked out of hospitals 48 hours after having a c-section. None of this make sense. If this were truly the case and he has just been recovering in the hospital, why wouldn’t they have put all the conspiracy theories to rest weeks ago?
Lindsey Graham Dies at 71…Lindsey Graham, one of President Trump’s closest allies in the Senate, died Saturday at age 71 after what his office described as a brief and sudden illness. The D.C. medical examiner said the cause of death was an aortic dissection related to cardiovascular disease. Graham served in the Senate for 23 years, chaired the Judiciary Committee, helped shape the federal judiciary, and evolved from one of Trump’s fiercest critics during the 2016 campaign into one of his most loyal political allies. His death creates a major vacancy in the Senate and leaves Republicans without one of their most influential voices on judicial nominations and foreign policy.
Common Sense Takeaway: Forgive me, I’m still a lit bit in shock by this news, but believe me, I reserve my sympathy for people that actually deserve it. The saddest part of this story is that Lindsey, commonly referred to as Lady G, never lived a life authentic to him—and he hurt many people along the way because of it. It didn’t have to be that way. I don’t cheer on anyone’s death, but I also don’t have to be sad.
Maine Democrats Race to Replace Senate Nominee….After Democratic Senate nominee Graham Platner dropped out following a sexual assault allegation that he denies, Maine Democrats have just two weeks to choose a replacement to take on Republican Sen. Susan Collins in one of the country’s most closely watched Senate races. The state party will hold a special convention on July 25 to select a new nominee from a growing field of candidates, including former Maine CDC Director Dr. Nirav Shah and Secretary of State Shenna Bellows. Party leaders say they’re focused on running a fair, transparent process and quickly uniting Democrats ahead of an election that could help determine control of the Senate.
Common Sense Takeaway: Now we are in a shit position where we have to find a candidate in 15 days to win this race that can carry momentum into the general election. I believe it’s possible, but this person should be chosen based on electability, not insider connections. Nevertheless, this all could have been avoided if Graham had dropped out months ago or the people responsible for vetting him actually did their job.
That’s it for today. Thanks for reading Common Sense with Ally Sammarco. Check back tomorrow for more.

McConnell is undergoing physical therapy? For what? It sounds like his doctors couldn't find anything wrong with him, so what's it for?
Important to note, Platner was polling worse against Collins than a generic Dem. In other words, she hates that he dropped out.
