Happy Monday and welcome back to today’s edition of Common Sense with Ally Sammarco—your daily briefing on U.S. politics. Let’s break it down.
Over 100,000 Federal Workers Set to Quit Amid Purge Plans….The administration is bracing for what’s expected to be the largest mass resignation in U.S. history: more than 100,000 federal employees are projected to submit resignations as a result of aggressive workforce reduction policies. With funding wars escalating and agencies already struggling from staffing cuts, the timing could be catastrophic.
Common Sense takeaway: When your workforce flees before you fire them, that’s not “efficiency.” Thats a mass protest and a sign that your method of operation is not working.
Labor Dept to Halt Key Economic Reports During Shutdown….If a government shutdown kicks in, the Labor Department says it will suspend publication of critical economic data, including the September jobs report. With markets already uncertain and unstable, the lack of transparency would add fuel to the fire.
Common Sense takeaway: At a time when mass firings and layoffs are happening, economic data is more important than ever. Perhaps a government shutdown is exactly what the Trump administration wants right now.
Trump Meets Netanyahu, Eyes Gaza Peace Deal….President Trump is hosting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House today, pushing for alignment on a U.S.-backed 21-point peace framework for Gaza. The White House now says they’re “very close” to a deal, although negotiations remain fragile.
Common Sense takeaway: Hopefully, the peace deal doesn’t involve turning Gaza into “beachfront property” like Trump has so kindly stated he wants to do. Otherwise, good luck, and let’s all pray for peace in Gaza.
Michigan Church Massacre Stuns Nation….A gunman drove into a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grand Blanc Township, Michigan, then opened fire and set the building on fire. At least 4 people were killed and 8 wounded before police shot the shooter dead. Authorities are treating it as a targeted act of violence, motivated by anti-Mormon sentiment. Donald Trump is declaring it “left-wing violence” because of course he is.
Common Sense takeaway: At a time when violence is ramping up, the last thing the President of the United States should be doing is placing blame where it doesn’t exist. The shooter was an Iraq War veteran, pictured wearing a shirt that says “Make Liberals Cry Again.”
That’s it for today. Thanks for reading Common Sense with Ally Sammarco. Check back tomorrow for more.
I can't say this enough, I appreciate your succinct reporting and writing style.
100,000 workers resigning is a huge message to the administration. I would love to see all of us backing that with an economic message--stop buying in strategic areas. If we all cancelled Amazon Prime on the same month, it would be a huge message. If we all stopped buying Trump's favorite drink, Diet Coke, that would be a strong message. If we all cancelled Netflix on a certain month, we flex our power multiplied by millions. Organizers could research pro-Trump entities for us to boycott. We might get the oligarchs (the government that is) to back down on some of it fascistic decrees. We just need organizations to unite and call for an economic strike and relate it to a specific goal.
